Sustainability

ESG, EHS, carbon and operational sustainability for industrial companies: reporting readiness, carbon visibility where the emissions are actually created, and the operational data underneath it. Advisory-led, partner-enabled.
Overview

One of four advisory practices,
with an operational layer underneath

Sustainability is one of CoralDune's four advisory practices, alongside PRIME, CODEX and FLEX. It covers ESG, EHS, carbon and operational sustainability: getting an organisation ready to report, making carbon visible at the level where it is created, and digitising the workflows that keep the underlying data honest. The practice is advisory-led. Where a platform is needed, CoralDune works through partner platforms and through DuneSpan's own operational sustainability modules.
What we support

What the practice supports

 • Sustainability reporting readiness: the data, the evidence trail and the approvals an external assurer will ask to see.
 • Carbon visibility: Scope 1, 2 and 3 seen at site, line and job level, not only at company level.
 • EHS digitisation: incidents, near-misses, hazards, permits and monthly HSE statistics held as records rather than spreadsheets.
 • Operational sustainability workflows: period opening, data collection, review and approval, with a named owner at every step.
 • Product sustainability: per-product and per-batch figures, and the material data behind them.
 • LCA and EPD facilitation: lifecycle studies and environmental product declarations run with specialist partners.
 • Partner platform enablement: selection, implementation and enablement of partner ESG, carbon and EHS platforms.
Partner platforms

SPRIH, Navigos and AcuiZen

NavigosESG and carbon calculation

By EiSqr Solutions. A confirmed CoralDune partner for ESG and carbon calculation, and the calculation route behind the first phase of DuneSpan's carbon module.

These are partner platforms, not CoralDune products. Availability varies by geography, client scope and commercial arrangement.
In DuneSpan

Where sustainability sits in the platform

Sustainability is part of HexaGrid OI, the operations layer. On the DuneSpan architecture diagram HexaGrid OI carries “Sustainability: Scope 1, 2 and 3 and operational carbon” alongside “Energy per unit, carbon intensity”. In the app it appears in the sidebar as Carbon.
Live todayActivity data and Scope 1 and 2

The Carbon Forms module and a sustainability plugin run on a manufacturing instance today: activity data such as electricity and fuels captured per period, and Scope 1 and 2 emissions calculated using recognised emission factors.

NextEmissions against jobs

Next in the build: emissions allocated to individual production units and work orders using WIP and ERP data, so a figure can be attached to a job rather than to a month.

RoadmapA phased carbon module

Architecture and phased implementation guides are complete: five volumes, around 106 pages. Phase 1 calculates through the Navigos API; Phase 2 adds DuneSpan's own calculation engine.

Sources, factor sets and reporting periods are configured and confirmed per deployment.
The design

Activity × emission factor is arithmetic.
It is done by rules, with full provenance.

Carbon is calculated by rules, never by retrieval and never by a language model. LEXORA can explain a figure, a factor or a standard; it does not calculate and it does not select emission factors. Every number can be reproduced from the inputs, the factor library version and the engine version that produced it.
+Reporting periods
Month, quarter or financial year, on each legal entity's own calendar, moving through Open, Collecting, Under Review, Approved and Locked. The lock is what an external assurer audits against.
+Activity records
Period × site or asset × activity type × quantity × unit, each one carrying an evidence document, a data owner and a status. The same pattern covers carbon, water, waste and monthly HSE statistics.
+Emission factor library
Factors held by source, region, year and GWP set. Versioned and never overwritten, so a calculation made two years ago can still be reproduced today. Factor datasets such as DEFRA and ecoinvent carry different licence terms, which are checked before use.
+Calculation runs
Every run records the input snapshot, the factor library version, the engine or partner-API version, and the outputs it produced.
+Approval roles
Contributor, reviewer, approver, external assurer. The approval chain runs on FLOW, so every step leaves an audit trail.
+Roll-up path
Asset to site, site to legal entity, legal entity to group.
+Grain
Sustainability data is monthly; HexaGrid OI data is by the second. Combined KPIs such as carbon per tonne or energy per unit have their grain defined once, and monthly carbon is never spread down to shifts.
+Future hooks
HSE events (incident, near-miss, hazard, permit), and LCA as bill of materials × factors × lifecycle stages, with EN 15804 as the reference frame for lifecycle stages, checked for each market.
In practice

Four to eight sub-meters,
not a meter on every machine

Sub-metering by machine group is the approach in CoralDune's client designs: typically four to eight sub-meters covering, for example, the coating line and oven, welders, laser, press brakes, compressed air, test rigs and general load. Not the whole facility, which tells you almost nothing, and not every machine, which costs more than it returns. Per-machine metering can follow later if the coarse data justifies it.
Scope 1Fuel burned on site

Gas ovens, forklifts and generators: the fuel an operation burns itself.

Scope 2Purchased electricity

Allocated to the jobs and batches that actually consumed it, rather than spread evenly across the month.

Scope 3Purchased goods and transport

Purchased materials, where steel usually dominates; outsourced galvanising and coating; purchased components; transport.

Per-unit figures come out of the same data: kWh and kgCO2e per product, per batch and per project, and where a buyer asks for it, per m², per certified batch or per unit of contract value.
Why it earns its place

A measured figure beats an estimate in a tender

Gulf public and quasi-public buyers are progressively adding environmental criteria to procurement. When a buyer asks for the carbon behind a product, a measured per-unit figure carries weight that an estimate does not.

One instrument, two returns

The same meters show where energy is being wasted — ovens held hot while idle is the common one. The saving is real, but it is a by-product of the measurement rather than the reason to do the work.
In the field

The same pattern, different plants

Cable manufacturing, UAEEnergy, carbon and production in one matrix

An energy–carbon–production matrix at job, line, site and month level, with energy split into productive, idle-hot and off, and emission factors held in a versioned register.

Process plant, KSAkWh per good tonne

Energy per good tonne produced, split into productive, idle-hot and off, so the cost of running hot and empty becomes visible to the plant team.

Steel structuresCarbon per unit delivered

Carbon per pole delivered, with outsourced galvanising counted into Scope 3 rather than quietly left out of the figure.

Fire-protection equipmentCarbon per tank or work order

Energy and Scope 1 and 2 carbon per tank and per work order, once activity data and emission factors are configured for the site.

CAD engineeringkgCO2e per damper and per batch

Scope 1, 2 and 3 with machine-group sub-metering, and kgCO2e per damper and per batch, carried inside the wider digitisation scope.

Across sectorsPer-unit metrics that travel

kWh and kgCO2e per unit, per m², per certified batch, per project and per unit of contract value: whichever denominator the buyer actually asks for.

Client examples are described by sector. Scope and configuration differ per deployment.
